There will be a total of 8 lab sessions starting from Week 2. Each lab constitutes a 2-hour session per week. All lab sessions will be supervised by a tutor. There will be 6 marked lab exercises that involve practical, hands-on experiments based on the concepts covered during the lectures. For each student, the 5 best performing labs will contribute to their final lab mark. Students are expected to submit a lab report by 10 am of the next Tuesday that their lab slot is scheduled (see the detailed schedule). 2 lab sessions will be run as tutorials. Students will work with their tutors to answer a set of questions. These sessions will serve as useful preparation for the mid-term and final exams. The tutorial sessions are not marked and will take place in the same room as your regular labs. The lab schedule is below but is subject to change. Students should check the notices on the web page for any changes/updates. There is an introductory lab for self-study, which won't require submission and be marked.
Please note that almost all lab sessions are full and you are requested to attend the lab session in your enrolled time slot only .
Home Computing
We recommend you use VLAB for accessing CSE resources. VLAB allows you to work with a CSE lab environment on your Windows PC, Mac or tablet. It requires VNC, a Linux-based graphical desktop-sharing system. Please follow the instructions in this link to set up VLAB on your machine.
Note: For all your lab exercises you are asked to put a screenshot of your outputs (e.g., graphs, traceroute, dig comments) in your report.
